A message from our Club President
I received a message from the Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies regarding an upcoming Rock Show in the Weber City area just east of Ogden, Utah. According to the message a presumptive Covid19 Virus case has been identified in that area. There is a concern that the virus may have already spread. At this time the Show has not been cancelled. Out of an abundance of caution, the Show hosts may cancel it, or the Governor of Utah or local authorities may cancel the show. If you have or someone you know has been planning to attend the Show, you or they should check frequently with the hosting club to see if the show has been cancelled.
Also, given the corona virus outbreak in Washington State, it is likely that local rock shows scheduled for tomorrow and this weekend and in coming weekends will be cancelled. Some may be cancelled suddenly and without notice because the health emergency situation is changing minute by minute. It may be too early to tell, but if the pandemic conditions continue, other shows over the next two to three months may be cancelled, as well.
Our next club meeting is a little over three weeks away. A majority of our members fit within the category of the most vulnerable age group or have health conditions that make us more vulnerable to serious cases of the disease. On the other hand,
some people can be spreading the corona virus while not having any obvious signs of being sick. We also meet at a church where a large congregation worships or meets several times a week. Currently there is a lack of information about how long viruses remain infective on the surfaces of counters, tables, chairs, door handles, etc. Our club meeting could result in one of us being seriously infected.
Later this month I will make a decision whether or not to cancel our April WAMS meeting now set for & PM on Tuesday, April 7th. If you have any recommendations regarding this, please let me know.
Please stay safe out there. For accurate, up to the minute information about Covid19 go the Washington State Department of Health website at doh.wa.gov. If you have not already done so, now is the time to plan, prepare, practice good hygiene, and preserve your health.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones and your friends.
