We have 16 people on the list as of November 12th.

Class & Instructor – this is a Basic Wire Wrapping Class taught by Jillian Higgins, PVG&MC.  You should expect to learn about types of wire, various pliers, cutters & tools, design, and the techniques a beginner will need to practice & to wrap their own pieces.  See Jillian’s work on Instagram @ lilyrowcustomjewelry
.

Location – the best name to do a google maps search on is “North Olympia Fire Station”.  It is located at 5046 Boston Harbor Road NE, Olympia.

Parking – when you arrive at the station, visitor parking is on the right (South) side.  Don’t park on the left side … could block fire vehicles going & coming.

Meeting Room – when you enter the front door, we will be in the main meeting room on the right hand side.  Bathrooms are to the left of the front door.

Guest WiFi Password:  FireStation

Time – The doors should be open about 4:30 pm.  Class runs from 5 to 9 pm.  Any help with set up and clean up will be appreciated.

Tools – Jillian said to bring, if you have them, flush cutters, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, and something called nylon jaw pliers.  Flat nose & stepped mandrel pliers are also good to have but not needed for this class.  If you don’t have tools and want to get some, I’ve seen them at craft stores (Michaels, Joanne Fabrics) and Shipwreck Beads.  There may be time to order on Amazon & get delivery.  Sharing those available in class is always an option, too.

Materials – bring the cab or stone you want to wrap.  Oval or teardrop shapes are good for beginners. If you can spare any, bring extra in case other students need one.

Jillian said we will be using 18 or 20 gauge wire for bases and 18 or 21 gauge 1/2 round wire in copper, silver or enamelled copper.  She said colored craft wires are not recommended.  They are typically anodized aluminum & very soft & difficult to work with.   Wire comes in varying degrees of hardness (hard, 1/2 hard, soft).  Jillian will have the wire we need for the class to purchase from her for $5.  That’s what I recommend.

Refreshments – I will be bringing coffee, hot water for tea,  a couple of quiches, fruit & other snacks.  Feel free to bring other snacks, too.  Doug is bringing plates & picnic supplies from the club stock.  Of course, if you have special dietary restrictions, please see to yourself.

Additional Expectations & Requirements –  remember that we are guests at an active fire station.  Please don’t block, even for a little bit, the lanes leading to the large bay doors.  Access to areas of the station other than our meeting room & bathrooms is restricted.  I will cover other relevant rules at the beginning of class.

Let me know if questions.  See you Saturday!
