My name is Doug and I started rockhounding or rockhoarding, whichever you prefer, three years ago. My main interest is in the lapidary arts and making cabochons (cabs). I joined WAMS rock club about three years ago right as the COVID-19 restrictions were easing enough for meetings to begin. Joining the club has opened many avenues into the rockhounding hobby; I have browsed almost every rock club website listed in the AFMS directory and read their newsletters which gave me insights into what people from all over are interested in and what their clubs are doing. I wouldn’t have done that if I wasn’t actively involved in WAMS as the Secretary. Joining a rock club is a good way to meet fellow rockhounds and learn about the local geology.
